Data Centre of Excellence
Bringing together data expertise across Wrightbus and the wider HydraB group.
What we do, and why
The Data CoE brings data owners, users and customers together to share what we know, tackle common problems, and build for the group.
What we set out to do
- Identify data owners, users and customers across the business
- Meet and work with peers across the group to share ideas and solutions
- Catalogue existing data sources and open access to CoE members
- Understand common challenges and opportunity areas
- Build a central backlog of data engineering work
The problems we're feeling
- Hard to answer the big questions — TCO, MTBF, vehicle off-road
- Numerous reports with different data sources going to many stakeholders
- Inconsistent data accuracy
- A large operational burden
How we'll work together
- A dedicated Teams group and channel
- Sparking individual conversations
- Training and upskilling opportunities
- Escalation of issues through the right channels to make change
Five guiding principles
The commitments that shape how we build and share data across the group.
Full transparency
All CoE members should have access to data schemas and transformations.
Published roadmap
A data roadmap published in a centralised location, giving visibility on milestones and pain points.
Clear definitions
Data definitions documented in human language, so everyone understands how KPIs are defined.
Federated governance
Centralised governance, with each team owning their domain but following common standards.
AI discoverability
AI discoverability of all datasets, KPIs and governance — making it easy to self-serve.
What we're working on
Foundations for a group-wide data platform, plus proof of concepts tackling immediate needs.
Snowflake data platform
Building a central, production-grade scalable data platform with Snowflake — central catalogue, Bronze / Silver / Gold medallion layers.
Proof of concepts
Standing up proof of concepts to tackle immediate needs.
Telematics platform
Working towards a central telematics platform for near real-time fleet data.
